I recently came across a unique quote from FDR, commenting about soils. It seems that in 1937, he recognized that the more we destroy our soils, the more problems we will have and the weaker we will be as a nation. I am not sure if FDR actually followed his own words as many of the projects the Tennessee Valley Authority conducted dealt with building dams and utilizing natural resources. With that being said, the quote is worthwhile.
“The Nation that destroys its soil destroys itself.” FDR in a letter to all state governors, 1937
I truly believe in this…the better we treat our soil, the healthier our food and animals are and the healthier we will then become!

WOW! Never heard this, Dane! Awesome quote!
Have you read Fukuoka’s books? The One Straw Revolution is a great one to start with, but the other two, The Road Back to Nature, and (can’t remember) are really great too.
They’re out of print, but you can get them used on Amazon. HIGHLY recommended. For me, Fukuoka’s method is The Way. Permaculture borrowed some ideas from him, but I don’t jive with perma as much.
Anyway, Fukuoka always talks about how tilling the soil kills it. “Tilling is killing” I guess…hahaha. Breaking up the earth and turning it over exposes the microorganisms in it to oxygen and sunlight, which kills them.
Crazy! Where did you come across that quote??
YOU!!! Yes, Caitlin actually emailed me this quote from a bumper sticker she saw out driving one day.
