Exercises of Champions

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Here is an awesome old school video of some Polish weightlifters in training. Some very good information here and awesome to see them using sound techniques, kettlebells and variants. Not a huge fan of the universal gym but everything else is fantastic. Check it out.

Another New Video, UFC 94

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

A new video has been added to the Video tab of the website.  It is the second installment to Garage Times.  Basically, these are just general training videos showing what is going on in the gym.  I am currently preparing for a potential indoor football season so most of my training is geared towards football at the moment.

This weekend will also be home to a great match up between Georges St. Pierre and Bj Penn.  It should be a great display of abilities as both fight for the welterweight championship of the UFC.  Should be a fun watch.  Feel free to leave your predictions.

Affliction and Mosley

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This weekend was a great weekend for MMA and boxing.  Starting with the Affliction event, all of the fights were tremendous.  Compared with the UFC, every fight was good and the fighters actually made some decent money.  The UFC seems to have 3 or 4 lackluster fights while only paying their fighters a few grand for the event.  The Affliction fights were intense and the attendance seemed to be decent, although I will say that Affliction may be paying guys like Arlovski a bit too much for being such a young organization but I am hoping they continue to put on good shows and push the envelope of MMA.

On the boxing side, this weekend was host to a showdown between Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley.  I was not too excited for this fight and really thought Margarito was going to crush Mosley.  Surprisingly, Mosley defied his age and put on a stunning victory over Margarito in the 9th round.  Unbelieveable.  Mosley is 37 years old yet remains in quite impressive shape while maintaining a healthy boxing career.  I am impressed by the fact that he may have put on his most stunning performance at the tender age of 37 .

Sports seem to have the ability to shed light on aging, physical performance and nutrition.  In the past year, we have seen guys like 44 year old Randy Couture, 37 year old Shane Mosley, 46 year old Jamie Moyer, 41 year old Dara Torres and now Lance Armstrong is coming back.  These older athletes continue to defy odds and show the “normal” individual that is possibel to continue pushing the body well past the 30’s and into the 40’s and golden years of living.

New Videos and What's on the Stereo?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I will be adding new training videos about twice a month, simply to show what we have at the Garage and what exercises are executed and how training is progressing.  There are two new videos, one can be viewed from the Video tab and the other is in with the Facility link as a better peer into the Garage.  Things have been busy this week at the Garage.  Training has been going well and we finally added our second platform.  The place is really turning out well.

As for new stuff on the stereo.  I was busting out the hip hop and mainly listening to I Got Next from KRS One.  Very good beats and of course, KRS never disappoints with his social commentary.  Good stuff and you can’t beat Rapture.

My Eureka! album this week is Close to the Edge from Yes.  The more I listen to the old Yes, the more I love them.  I have also decided that much of the new stuff from Animal Collective reminds me of a child with Yes and the Beach Boys as parents.
