What's on the stereo?

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Happy Holidays to everyone!  It snowed a bit this weekend so it was fun to get outside in the cold weather and play a little with my niece.  I also find the cold weather to be the best air to breathe.  For some reason, I feel like it helps to clean out my lungs. Not sure if there is any credence but, oh well.  Training is going well and things are continuing to progress at the Garage.

Music on the stereo:  Black Moth Super Rainbow – Dandelion Gum

Eureka Album!: Pink Floyd – Meddle

I have been in a mood for more pscyhedelic stuff and I have always felt that this type of music is best for my focus.  Really gets me set on the task at hand.

Training Update

There are a few exciting things going on at Garage Strength.  One of my clients is currently involved with an experiment that I have implemented.  As previously stated, he is training on a high volume, high motor recruitment training.  He presently has added nearly 10 pounds to his body and his working weights have continued to sky rocket.  Another client is involved with a weightloss/diet program.  She has dropped nearly 50 LBS in just a matter of 9 weeks.  She has been training quite hard and has been keeping a detailed journal of her diet.  A few other clients are involved with random programs, one in particular is about to dive into my Anti-Velocity Diet.  I have not come up with a better name as of right now.

As for my own training, things have been going well and I recently signed a contract with the Reading Express.  They are the local indoor football team.  Hopefully, things go well and I make the starting 20 man roster and I can progress from that point.  It should be a fun experience.  This weekend I will also be adding “monkey ropes” to the gyms accessories which will add an interesting twist to training.

Anyone interested can check out my new article on Kefir.  I go into brief detail about the benefits from kefir and how it is the best drink to consume following a workout.  Kefir is a great way to use real food and avoid spending absurd amounts of money on protein shakes and other supplements.  It is cheaper and more effective.  Enjoy.

Experiment Update

Last night my client and I reviewed his progress on his current training program.  After the first 6.5 weeks of training, he has gained just over 6 pounds and added 35 pounds of working weight to his  bench press and 25 pounds of working weight to his clean.  Keep in mind, these are not hyperinflated numbers that you would see in a muscle magazine/website.  These are results from nothing but hard work and lots of sweat.

The individual came in with a decent background in weightlifting.  In high school, he learned proper clean, squat, snatch and bench press technique.  He has been lifting consistently over the past two years but struggled to gain any significant weight.  He has adjusted his diet a bit but not entirely, with further adjustment to his diet and the completion of the second part of this volume training, his results should be astounding.

The training is known as Pennsylvania Volume Training.  I have taken a famous volume training program (German Volume Training) from a popular strength coach (Poliquin) and implemented a few of my own theories and ideas for a simple volume program.  Pennsylvania Volume Training is shaping up nicely and adding plenty of strength and size to this particular client.  I will keep posting over the next few weeks of the progress at hand.
