The Emotions Attached to the Opening Snatch and Clean and Jerk Attempts and Why Are They So Important

This is something that I have always struggled with. I was almost scared of my opening attempts for a while. When I started lifting, I missed a lot of opening attempts causing me to have a lot of anxiety when competing. I was scared of my openers, which made my whole lifting meet more complicated than it needed to be. I never felt confident enough to hit my lifts after that. The reason these emotions are so important is that it sets the tone for the rest of the competition. If you are super confident and go out on the platform and smash your opening attempts, you will have great energy for the rest of the meet. If you struggle on openers and miss, it will be much harder to come back from that mentally.

Emotions are super important in lifting, and especially the opening attempts. Hitting a solid opener with good technique and energy will not only set you up for success but will help take away from the other competitors. You missing an opener will bring confidence to your opponents because they know you are having negative emotions. The more positive your emotions are while lifting the better you lift. Do not let negative thoughts affect your lifting!
