Here is a very interesting article I came across when reading up on ketone bodies.  It is very interesting and should be considered with modern day medicine when dealing with degenerative diseases.  Here are a few key quotes from the article:

“Ketones are a high-energy fuel that nourish the brain,” VanItallie said, professor emeritus at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. VanItallie has also implicated that ketones may have a positive effect on Parkinson’s as the brain also struggles to handle glucose metabolism in this disease as well.

Ketones may be beneficial to those with Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and Type I and II diabetes.

Ketones can be produced by low carb diets and consumption of medium chain triglycerides, many found in coconut oil and butter. Here is the link:
